A foot or toe prosthesis serves as a functional and cosmetic replacement for the missing foot region. It is made of flexible silicone, which is precisely adapted to the circumstances of the individual stump.
Because the lack of individual toes, parts of the foot or even the entire foot is in the permanent field of vision of the viewer, the desire for a look that is as realistic and discreet as possible is great. Our silicone experts reproduce even the finest details, such as pigment stains, small hairs or distinctive skin structures. By integrating different shades in layers, we get very close to the original skin tone. The overall impression of the prosthesis is rounded off by a detailed replica of the acrylic resin toenail. Not only does the result look deceptively real, it can even be painted with nail polish.
Silicone can be used successfully with almost any type of foot defect. Thanks to the material’s smooth, resilient and cushioning properties, excellent solutions can be found even in the most difficult cases.
The combination of different hard silicones ensures an optimal fit of the foot or toe prosthesis. The outstanding adhesive properties of the silicone material also make closures and fasteners unnecessary.
The individual color design and modeling of a toe shape enable those affected to wear ready-made and open shoes inconspicuously. As the silicone is water-resistant, the prosthetic foot can also be worn while bathing and swimming.
The quality of a prosthetic treatment is always in its individuality. That’s why we tailor the prosthesis construction to your specific needs. The performance that can be achieved with the foot prosthesis depends on the clinical picture. In many cases, accompanying therapeutic measures (e.g. physiotherapy) can support performance.
First of all, a detailed consultation will take place, in which the various care options will be demonstrated. After submitting a prescription, we prepare a cost estimate for the respective cost unit with a request for assumption of costs. The second visit takes place after approval has been granted by the agency assuming the costs.
The foot area to be treated is molded using a silicone or plaster cast. As a sample, the opposite side is recorded with an impression compound. In addition, the stump dimensions are taken and the first color selections for skin and nails are made.
A trial prosthesis is produced. Modifications and bedding variants can be tested on the trial prosthesis. The aesthetic design of the prosthesis is not yet the focus of this phase. The prosthetic trial is a thorough test run, requiring two to eight weeks
to wear the compression elements, depending on the stump conditions.
As a rule, two to three visits are required in order to make subsequent improvements to the trial prosthesis.
After a positive test result, we look at the aesthetic design. During the fitting of the final/definitive prosthesis, you will receive instruction in the handling of the device and learn how to best care for your prosthesis.
Thanks to excellent material properties, there are numerous repair options that can extend the durability of your prosthesis.
The patient’s middle toe had to be amputated due to an accident.
This toe prosthesis is attached to the foot with a cuff due to the ultra-short stump. Naturally, the prosthesis can be coated with nail polish and removed again on the toe nail.
Due to an accident, part of the left foot and four toes were amputated.
Since the large toe is still present, a partial forefoot prosthesis was produced for this patient.
