Medicotechnical success
spreads in no time. The good reputation of the company Pohlig
for manufacturing protheses, ortheses, orthoprotheses and
other orthopaedic technical products has rapidly distributed
not only in Germany but also in quite a few other countries.
The consequence: From far away patients come to find help
in Traunstein - from the whole Federal Republic, from Italy
and the Netherlands, Austria and Spain, Poland and Russia,
Romania and Hungary.
For this reason the family run business in the third
generation and founded in 1920, opened a subsidiary branch in
1998 in Nuremberg, South-West Park. The step away from the
home region represents a remarkable business expansion. This
is especially true for the orthopaedic technique, to which are
linked around 60% of the trade volume. However, the scope is
wider. Pohlig also operates a medical supply centre known for
most modern techniques of measurement and an innovative
product range in the field of health care as well as a
business section for rehabilitation technique, specialised on
the technical rehabilitation of most severely handicapped and
needing care as well as individual adaptation of seating shell
supplies.
The orthopaedic shoe technique is the youngest branch of
Pohlig. With the electronic foot pressure measuring, peak
loads can precisely be determined. The data are channeled and
fed into CAD navigated manufacturing of adapted soles or foot
beds for orthopaedic shoes made to measure. With this
procedure an optimal fit of shoes and soles is attained.
The steady growth is reflected in the development of the
personnel: When Kurt Pohlig, the present owner and grandson of
Otto and Helene Pohlig, the founders, took over the company
together with his wife from the second generation in 1981,
about 25 people were employed. At present 130 people are under
contract at Pohlig. Training of the highly specialised
professional staff is generally done by the company.
Orthopaedic technical enterprises with such an extended
nationwide "sales area" do not exist too often. The
trade has a middle classed structure, the catchment area of
the single supplier is often rather limited. The more
impressive appears the wide sphere of influence of Pohlig
company - even more so since physicians who issue
prescriptions are often domiciled far away. They refer their
patients for adaptations to the Chiemgau or to Nuremberg - and
mostly see them again only with the fitted product.
