Only profound specialisation can do justice to this
motto.
The experts at Pohlig are first class trained specialists.
They concentrate intensively on the handicap of the individual
patient, inspired by the target of optimum rehabilitation. The
constructive dialogue across the specialities and also the
interdisciplinary dialogue lead to the development of most
innovative products. Complex prostheses take the place of
amputated extremities. The subspecialty orthetics supports,
corrects and activates the diseased body regions. As far as
compensation of malformations of extremities are concerned,
the Pohlig company rank as leading in Europe.
Orthopaedic technical products have to be adapted to the body
with as less pain as possible. This is achieved both by
skilful craftsmanship and sensitivity of the orthopaedic
technician. The prostheses, ortheses, orthoprostheses are
cautiously moulded as by a sculptor. They are little work of
art which, in most cases, help the people to a new quality of
life. To re-establish with innovative precision the
biomechanic function is our goal. Furthermore the specialists
practise with success, above all as far as prostheses and
orthoprostheses are concerned, to adjust form and colour of
the aids to healthy parts of the body in a way hardly
discernible by outsiders.
Pohlig are especially concerned about paediatric orthopaedics.
This domain deals intensively with the rehabilitation of rare
diseases such as supplies for infantile cerebroparesis, spina
bifida or also arthrogryposis multiplex congenita. Pohlig hold
responsible for the technical realisation of the talus
repositioning ring-orthesis according to Dr. Monique Baise.
Several thousand children have already been helped with this
newly developed functional orthesis.
A central role in the orthopaedic technique is played by
the processing of silicone. In such cases nature is actually
given a hand by close cooperation of physicians and
orthopaedic technicians, not seldom in an astonishing way.
However, the success of an artificial replacement is always
depending on each individual case and the extent of damage.
The highly developed manual skills required for such difficult
proceedings are combined at Pohlig with intensive efforts of
research and development. Thus the company Pohlig have gained
a leading position in the processing of silicone. The
technique from Traunstein, internationally acknowledged, has
next to excellent quality also quite materialistic advantages.
The prices of many products are distinctly lower compared to
products that previously mostly were imported from the USA.
The patients do not only come from the entire Federal
Republic, but also from the European countries. Very often we
are a first contact for most difficult cases and we are glad
with the success.
The steady growth is reflected in the development of the
personnel. When Kurt Pohlig, todays’ owner and grandchild of
Otto and Helene Pohlig, the founders, took over the company in
the second generation in 1981 together with his wife
Sieglinde, approximately 25 people were employed. At present,
about 130 employees are working at Pohlig. The training of the
highly specialised staff is usually done by ourselves.
Enterprises for orthopaedic techniques with a such wide and
supra-regional sales area are not found too often. The branch
has a middle classed structure, the catchment area of the
single supplier most commonly is rather restricted. The more
impressive appears the wide range of influence of the company
Pohlig – all the more as physicians who write out
prescriptions are often practising far away. They refer their
patients to the Chiemgau or to Nuremberg for adaptation and
mostly see them again only with the fitted product.
